Maintenance & Testing FAQs

A guide to some of the most commonly asked questions around electrical testing and maintenance.

01

How often should I have my electrical systems inspected?

There is a regulatory requirement to have EICR inspections carried out at every 5 years for most commercial properties, although this requirement is every 3 years for factories and industrial buildings, caravan parks, leisure centres, and hotels. There is an annual requirement for an EICR in swimming pools, medical facilities, and petrol stations.

However, it is best practice to have interim planned preventative maintenance carried out to ensure safety and compliance on a more regular basis. This can include quarterly inspections, non-destructive column testing, and regular testing.

02

Why is preventative maintenance important?

Regular maintenance helps identify faults early, extend the lifespan of electrical equipment, improve safety, and reduce the risk of unexpected failures and emergency call-outs.

03

What does electrical maintenance include?

Routine electrical maintenance covers inspection, testing, servicing, and preventative upkeep of your electrical systems. This typically includes checking wiring, distribution boards, safety devices, lighting, emergency systems, and ensuring compliance with current regulations.
