Background

The strength of that working relationship opened a conversation about the broader range of specialist services Metcor offers, including our electrical division, Metcor Electrical.

When the client raised concerns about the reliability of their existing EV charging infrastructure which was impacting the service they could deliver to their tenants, they invited Metcor’s electrical team to investigate. The existing chargers were experiencing persistent hardware faults and recurring connectivity issues to the back office, resulting in a poor charging experience for end users.

The original setup of 7kW single-phase charging was also limited in capacity, reducing the speed and utility of the charging provision for building occupants and visitors. The client wanted to understand whether their supply infrastructure could support an upgrade, and whether an alternative provider could deliver a more dependable, higher-performance solution.

Project Scope

  • Initial survey and assessment of the existing electrical supply assessment to determine capacity for upgraded charging units
  • Subsequent specification and procurement of replacement charging units
  • Removal of existing chargers and installation of new CP6000 Chargepoint 22kw Chargers.
  • Commissioning and testing
  • Handover and documentation
  • 1-year assure and cloud plan included with installation

Our Approach

Following the initial conversation, Metcor Environmental arranged a joint site visit with the Metcor Electrical lead and the Facility Manager to assess and survey the existing infrastructure in person. The visit focused on evaluating the condition of the existing electrical supply and determining whether sufficient capacity existed to support higher-output charging equipment.

The survey confirmed that the available power supply was sufficient to run OCV chargers on site. Rather than working around the limitations of the existing equipment, Metcor proposed a clean-break solution: remove the underperforming units and install new, higher-capacity chargers to deliver a reliable, future-ready charging solution. The existing cable infrastructure was retained and utilised where appropriate, reducing unnecessary cost and disruption.

With the client’s tenants front of mind throughout, Metcor worked efficiently to minimise downtime and disruption during the installation.

Solution

Metcor Electrical supplied and installed two 22kW dual charge point EV chargers, providing a significant upgrade from the previous 7kW single-phase setup. The solution included a 1-year assure and cloud plan provided by Chargepoint, giving the client both hardware reliability and remote monitoring capability from day one.

By utilising the existing cable infrastructure on site, the installation was delivered efficiently and cost-effectively. The upgrade improves charging speed and site capacity, supporting the client’s sustainability commitments and the increasing demand for EV charging in commercial environments.

To complete the installation, Metcor produced bespoke graphics for the charge point hardware, giving the client a finished result that was distinctly their own.

Result

Before:

  • 7kW single-phase charging
  • Poor reliability with recurring faults
  • Inadequate service support from incumbent provider
  • Single service relationship (environmental PPM only)

After:

  • 2 × CP6000 22kw Dual socketed Chargepoint chargers
  • Reliable infrastructure with cloud monitoring included
  • Ongoing Metcor planned preventative maintenance contract agreed
  • Multi-division relationship established: Environmental, Electrical and Pumps
  • Client has expressed intent to install additional chargers at the site

Conclusion

This project is a clear demonstration of how Metcor’s multi-disciplinary capability creates real value for facility managers. What began as a planned preventative maintenance relationship for environmental services evolved, through proactive engagement and expertise, into a meaningful combined services partnership.

The client now benefits from a faster, more reliable EV charging infrastructure, ongoing managed maintenance, and a single trusted partner across both their environmental and electrical requirements.

For facility managers managing complex, multi-service properties, this is the Metcor difference: specialist expertise, proactive thinking, and a commitment to doing the job properly every time
